Our Butchers
We are looking for experienced, high quality butchers to join our professional team across our network of stores.
The right person will be/have:
- experience as a qualified butcher
- a willingness to coach and develop aspiring butchers
- an absolute commitment to customer service
- a passion for meat and sharing that passion with customers
Responsibilities
- processing traditional cuts & trimming quality meat
- preparation of carcass stock & value-add products
- high quality customer service
- high standard of personal presentation, hygiene and safety

Our Apprentice Butchers
Tasman Butchers supports and encourages the growth and development of the butchery trade by developing the best apprentices in a ‘traditional’ butcher shop environment. All of our meat is prepared from full-bodies, enabling our apprentices to gain full exposure of the end-to-end process of butchery.
What does an apprenticeship with Tasman Butchers look like?
As an apprentice at Tasman Butchers, we will support you through completing an apprenticeship in Retail Butchering to help you gain the nationally recognised trade’s qualification - Certificate 3 – Retail Meat Processing (Retail Butcher). We will fund your training, as well as provide you with the support and knowledge you need to succeed. You will work alongside our store managers and butchers, who are some of the best in the business.
The apprenticeship itself can take up to 4 years to complete, however with dedication and commitment, it can be completed in a much shorter time period.

Our Store Management
What is the role of store management?
As a member of store management in our business, your overall key objectives will be to maximise store performance in terms of customer satisfaction, sales, profit, team building and development, alongside controlling costs. You will draw on your own skill and experience to coach and hone the skills of our butchers and apprentices, to produce the freshest quality meat products for our customers. You will also guide and develop the store team to delight and deliver on our customer'growing expectations.
What do you need to be part of our store management?
- prior experience in a management role, preferably in fresh foods
- prior experience as a butcher who has progressed through to meat manager in a large supermarket or their own business, will be looked upon very favourably
- a proven ability to successfully deliver in all aspects of the role; driving sales, managing costs, profit, stock control and people management
- a passion for providing excellent customer service
- highly motivated with a 'can do' attitude
- can motivate and drive your team
- can work in a fast-paced environment and think on your feet
- have a genuine passion for meat and our butcher/apprentices and the time-honoured skills of our butchery trade

Our Meat Service Assistants
At Tasman Butchers, we recognise the crucial role our store Meat Service Assistants play in the ongoing success of our business. Store Meat Service Assistants are typically the first point of contact for all our customers and are crucial to our customers' first impressions of the business and service standards.
What is the role of a Meat Service Assistant?
As a Meat Service Assistant, your top priority will be the customer. Your duties will include assisting with customer enquiries, serving customers on the register, preparing and packing fresh meat products to our customers' exacting standards, replenishing stock in the store and ensuring safe, clean and hygenic presentation across the store and selling area.
